The City of Irvine is centrally located and covers a significant geographical area within Orange County. The Orange County cities sharing a border with Irvine include Newport Beach & Newport Coast, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Tustin, Lake Forrest, Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods.

This city has one of the lowest crime rates in all of Southern California. The Irvine Police Department is well funded and has very strong resources to patrol all parts of the city in its effort to maintain a low crime rate. Consequently, the enforcement of DUI cases within the city limits is very strong. You should also be aware that neighboring police agencies, such as the Newport Beach Police Department, often conduct DUI arrest within Irvine’s borders.

As one of the centrally located cities in Orange County, many traffic stops and DUI investigations are conducted on motorists passing through the city, including those who are on their way home from restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Individuals who are arrested for a DUI here will have their criminal case heard in the Harbor Justice Center, located at 4601 Jamboree Road in Newport Beach. All DUI cases occurring in this area are prosecuted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

In comparison to other parts of Southern California, both the District Attorney’s Office and the Judicial Officers in the Harbor Justice Center have a reputation of being conservative in their treatment of such cases. While the same state laws apply to DUI cases throughout California, the Orange County courts and the DA’s office are arguably less tolerant of DUIs than many other counties in California.

Shortly after your arrest, you will be required to appear in court for your criminal case. In contrast, you are not required to participate in the administrative case with the Traffic Safety Office of the DMV. Not doing so, however, will very likely have more immediate and negative consequences on your driving Privileges.

After many years of handling DUI cases, I have found that the vast majority of individuals arrested for DUI experience feelings of stress, fear, anxiety, and embarrassment. These feeling are often exacerbated by having to repeatedly appear in court.

As the primary DUI attorney in our office, I will be able to appear for you at all of your court appearance and at the DMV hearing, so that you do not have to. My experience and familiarity with the local judges, prosecutors, and DMV hearing officers will go a long way to help you manage these feelings by eliminating your confusion about the process, by guiding you during every step of your case, and by working hard towards a favorable outcome.
